The centerpiece of the Kyrie Irving trade was point guard Isaiah Thomas, small but elusive. Questions surged around the trade as Thomas was dealing with a hip injury that some people thought might limit the 28-year-old. But, after long months of workouts and rehab, the veteran returned on the second against Portland. On a minute’s restriction, Thomas produced 17 points in 19 minutes and showed some good chemistry with LeBron. Again, Thomas showed great flashes dropping 19 points in 21 minutes in his first start on Saturday.
So, is IT enough for the Cavs to win another Eastern Conference title? LeBron will be LeBron, producing at a mind-boggling rate and Kevin Love is having his best season as a Cavalier. I think Thomas needs to bring not only scoring but also passing and steady ball handling. Thomas is out to prove that he is just fine and ready to contend for a title.
